Pride of Maspalomas 2014

It’s January and I’m already thinking to this year’s Pride of Maspalomas to come. There’s not much time left until May, so you better book your hotel and buy your flight ticket if you want to be present at the best European LGBT pride. The island of Gran Canaria and the sunny Maspalomas start the preparations. I already have my airplane ticket and my hotel is booked so… Maspalomas here I come! Here is the promotional video of the Pride of Maspalomas 2014:

And now, some photos  from the previous edition, Pride of Maspalomas 2013, I took at the Miss contest. Here are photos I never published on my blog (some of them I published on TransLiving Magazine, thanks to Shane Marcus, the kind owner and senior editor). Enjoy!

¡Disfrute!

The Hole 2

Tuesday we went to the second part of The Hole showThe Hole 2. We enjoyed the first part and we couldn’t miss the second. The show goes around of an impossible yet powerful allegorical love story between a man and a female rat – Maria del Mar. But the real purpose of the show is to take you off the hole (day by day life) and put a smile on your serious tired face. It’s a burlesque show with a lot of amazing dance-acrobatics, a lot of sexy and vicious men and women and plenty life facts said in a humorous way. Sometimes the show makes you seriously think and in the very next moment you laugh out loud. The location, a famous theater (La Latina), is great decorated, but a little uncomfortable especially if your legs are too longs, haha, the space between tables and chairs is small. But that’s a tiny inconvenient, the show really worth it. You can also have a drink (I had 2 correct Caipiriñas) or a meal (though I don’t recommend it as the show captures all your attention).

Be careful, taking photos/videos during the show is strictly forbidden, but there is a small pause when you can use your cameras. And that was the moment I took my photos. Enjoy!

¡Disfrutais!

[Pride of Madrid] Thursday night

The Orgullo (Pride) started in Madrid and my nights are now occupied in between the shows from various places, mainly in Chueca neighborhood. There are so many interesting shows that it is hard to chose where to go, what to see… Last night, I was in Plaza del Rey to see “El lamento de las Divas” (drama of three divas) and then “Perdona, bonita, pero Lucas me quería a mí” (sorry but Lucas loved me, a show about three gay room mates that loved the forth). Soon more infos about the shows at the Orgullo.

Fashion Therapy

…and I can’t tell what gender anybody is and I like that…there are a lot of beautiful women here and a lot of them are men” [1:40, the second movie]

Today I want to present you two short movies from lastnightsparty.com, a website that I love… not only because of the uncensored photos of various parties, but also because of the (fashion & relationship) philosophy that “the legendary” Larry Mannequin (Merlin Bronques) is exposing there. It’s another world, or maybe just an instance of it, when the human beens are seen as simple as they actually are, despite the glamorous clothes and accessories. It’s a carpe diem world, the nightlife party. Enjoy the show.

San Isidro – The Parade of Giants and Big Heads

San Isidro is the patron saint of Madrid and the public holiday. A range of varied events take place from the Friday before 15th when the Mayor’s speech begins proceedings and continue until the following Sunday when there is the cooking of an enormous cocido madrileño (Madrid’s most traditional dish, a soup with vegetables and meat). On the day of May 15th many madrileños dressed in traditional gear head for Plaza Mayor where there is traditional dancing and open air concerts. Casa de Campo, the large park to the south west of the centre hosts rock concerts during the fiestas and there are varied events throughout the city.

Around the streets of central Madrid you’ll see organ grinders (barquilleros) in their San Isidro costumes selling traditional sweet snacks called “barquillos“. Although San Isidro was historically a religious celebration of the generosity of San Isidro (a poor farmer) and his wife, Santa Maria de la Cabeza, in giving food to the poor, it is now a excuse for great festivities. This turnaround has been the case in most national festivals. ¡¡Viva España!!

Please excuse the poor quality of the pictures, I hadn’t the camera with me so I used my…phone to capture this event (“The Parade of Giants and Big Heads”)…
